Nokia 6800 is a Mobile Phone for Text Fanatics

Last Thursday, I mentioned the IDC study that categorized users of mobile technology into four groups. One of those groups was voice and text fanatics who IDC thinks are a "... communications-centric group of individuals who tend to be focused on text-based data and messaging."

Nokia has developed a unique mobile phone that will probably appeal to this group of people. It's called the Nokia 6800, and it features a full fold-out keyboard that surrounds the display when it is opened. It supports long SMS messages, as well as MMS, POP, IMAP, and instant messaging. The 6800 also supports GPRS for wireless internet access. Another fairly unique feature of the 6800 is its built-in FM stereo radio.

The Nokia 6800 is another phone that AT&T Wireless is promoting aggressively. With the right service contract, you can get the 6800 from Amazon.com and receive $50, after rebate.

I think this phone is best for people who are really into text messaging, and don't feel the need to use their phone as a mobile organizer. The built-in Java capability means that a number of games and mobile applications will be available for it, but, I don't think anyone will think that the 6800 has the application-running power of the Motorola MPx200 or the Handspring Treo 600.
