IDC Study Categorizes Users of Mobile Technology

Reading Time: < 1 minute

Earlier this week, IDC released a summary of a new research report that they just completed called Exploring Usage Models In Mobility: A Cluster Analysis of Mobile Users. In it, they divided mobile technology users into four segments: Display Mavens, The Mobile Elite, Minimalists, and Voice and Text Fanatics.

It seems like most Operation Gadget readers are in the Mobile Elite, although a few are probably Voice and Text Fanatics.

The only really confusing segment that IDC came up with is the Display Mavens. According to the report, they are “individuals who deliver a large number of presentations while mobile and also use, to a moderate degree, entertainment applications during periods of idleness.” Without reading the full report, it’s hard to understand how people in this group are distinct from The Mobile Elite, unless Display Mavens are defined by their tendency to carry multimedia projectors with them in order to make presentations to clients. But, my experience with technical sales people is that most of them would fit in both categories rather well. [ via Palm Infocenter ]
