“Verizon One” Intended to Be a Home Telecom Hub

Reading Time: < 1 minute

A number of sites have reported that Verizon has chosen Westell as the supplier of the equipment for their Verizon One service. This is intended to unite voice, video, and data services into a single device in the home. The Verizon One appliance includes:

  • a DSL modem,
  • 802.11g wireless router,
  • 5.8 Ghz cordless telephone, and
  • color touch screen.

It’s designed to be the delivery platform for the iobi Communications Management Application which was announced back in October, is supposedly available in New York City and parts of New England, but is not receiving extensive promotion in the New York Metropolitan Area media market at the moment.

eHomeUpgrade has a somewhat intriguing photo of the Verizon One device, but it’s shown in the distance behind the close-up of the side of a pretty generic looking portable phone handset. I haven’t been able to find any screen shots of the Verizon One user interface. Verizon’s CES information page has information about iobi, Fios, VoiceWing, and Wireless EV-DO, but almost nothing about Verizon One.

It’s hard to provide a first impression of a product like this until more information is available. [ via Wi-Fi Networking News ]
