Princeton Gets Half-Ironman Triathlon in September 2014

My buddy Mike Buteau from Bloomberg reports that World Triathlon Corporation announced that there will be a half-Ironman triathlon at Mercer County Park in West Windsor which will take place next September 21st. According to the article, this will be the first New York Metro Area Ironman-branded event since the New York City Ironman was cancelled. While that race was somewhat different (a full 140.6-mile triathlon, rather than a half-Ironman) and garnered great attention because of its location, it had a number of problems, including an entrance fee of $1,200!

The new 70.3-mile event will be staged by CGI Racing Events of Glassboro, NJ, which organizes four other triathlons including the New Jersey State Triathlon in the same location in July. The entrance fee will be $275, which is far more reasonable than the New York City Ironman, and logistics for this event should be much simpler due to Mercer County Park‘s central location, which provides easy access, abundant parking, and plenty of open space for staging the start and finish of the triathlon.
