infoSync World reported that AT&T Wireless is offering the U.S. Federal Government annual flat-rate wireless service contracts for voice and data. Prices vary depending on the type of device and services provided. According to the article, most data-centric devices, including versions of the RIM BlackBerry 7280 and the palmOne Treo 600 compatible with their GSM/GPRS network, will qualify for these rate plans. According to the article:

The new annual rate plans will vary in pricing depending on device and service level (voice, data, or both), with volume pricing available. For example, unlimited domestic Blackberry data service for federal government accounts will start at $599 USD per year per user…. AT&T Wireless has not stated any intention to offer similar yearly plans to corporate accounts, only to government accounts at this point.

Of course, if they offered rates plans like these to the general public, it would be a big jolt to the industry.
