palmOne Reportedly Acts to Squelch Fourth-Generation Treo Rumors

Both BargainPDA and Engadget report that palmOne has begun issuing cease-and-desist orders to some websites that broke the latest stories about the design of the fourth-generation Treo. BargainPDA chided palmOne, saying:

...This is NOT how you keep something secret. The only worse thing you could do is issue a signed affidavit saying that the T610 exists. The cat is out of the bag, it isn't going back in, and trying to do it will only get you scratched.

Operation Gadget reminds its readers that planning future purchases on the basis of rumored products is a bad idea. Even announced products that have not shipped are questionable. Remember the Nokia 7700?
