T-Mobile Offering Free Windows Mobile 2003 Update for Pocket PC Phone

BargainPDA reports that T-Mobile has released a free Windows Mobile 2003 upgrade for its PocketPC Phone units. T-Mobile says that the upgrade will be available for free until June 30, 2004, afterwhich they will presumably charge $30.00 for it.

Features of the upgrade include:

• enhanced Pocket Inbox wireless email application,
• new applications to view PowerPoint and PDF attachments,
• new Windows Media Player 9 support,
• more nuanced call muting and volume control,
• improved SMS integration, and
• enhanced contact search capabilites.

Kudos to T-Mobile for following through on their announced intention to allow users to upgrade their phones to Windows Mobile 2003. I always want to point out situations where mobile carriers enhance the value of phones that have been sold for use on their network, because I've learned that we can't always count on this kind of customer service.
