Hitachi G1000 Brings Camera, Phone, Keyboard Together on a Pocket PC

Reading Time: < 1 minute

If you are looking for the same sort of functionality present in the Handspring Treo 600, but you want the Pocket PC platform, may I suggest the Hitachi G1000 mobile phone available with Sprint PCS service? It has a 3.5 inch color display that produces 64k colors and a resolution of 240 x 320 pixels. The digital camera has the ability to rotate 180 degrees, shoots 640 x 480 pixel images, but does not have a flash.

This is a huge device at 5.8 x 3.3 inches, with thickness of almost 1 inch, and a weight of 8.4 ounces. It’s strengths are the quality of the display and the presence of the large keyboard. It’s weaknesses are the peppyness of the applications (in spite of the 400 mHz CPU) and the fact that Outlook 2000 (not 2002) is included.

At the time of this writing, the Hitachi G1000 is available from Amazon.com for $249.00, after all discounts and rebates.
