Here's an Idea for Mobile Phone Portability Day: Don't Do Anything

Today is the first day of mobile phone number portability in the major markets of the United States. My advice to Operation Gadget readers is to watch and see what happens. Callers to customer service departments at mobile phone carriers today may have a simiar experience to calling the Butterball Turkey Hotline mid-morning on Thanksgiving.

Of course, a number of true geeks (like me) will probably wait for wider availability of the Handspring Treo 600 before trying to make our best deals.

Om Malik has a good page of number portability tips and links over on GigaOm for those who feel that they have to do something today.
